Sonas’s Refuge in Dublin is 24/ 7 crisis refuge for women experiencing domestic abuse.

I am experiencing domestic abuse – can I refer myself to this service?

Yes.

Can an agency refer me to this service?

Yes but a member of the Refuge Team will still speak to you directly; an exception is made if you are unable to talk on the phone due to injury, disability, language barrier or safety.

Where?

The majority of women and children supported by Sonas refuge are from the greater Dublin region. We will, however, accept referrals outside of this area.

What can I expect from the service?

A member of our Women’s Support Team will meet with you on arrival to carry out an initial assessment of your needs, and develop an individual support plan catered to your needs which will include personal safety and security related support, how to access finance and/ or social welfare and court related support, and health and well-being related support. If you have children, then a member of our Children’s Support Team will follow up with you and the children, to assess the children’s needs and identify what supports they might need. Accommodation is in self-contained apartments with access to the following facilities; playground, playroom and a communal living room/ socialising space.

How long will support be provided for?

Support is generally provided for up to twelve weeks but is assessed on a case by case basis depending on need. Additional support is available on leaving refuge by way of Sonas Outreach and Visiting Support Services.
